The AI Vulnerability Spectrum is a five-level scale that rates how easily AI can complete an assignment, from Fully Vulnerable to AI-Resistant. It's the tool you use in the Audit step of the Assignment Makeover framework.
Most conversations about AI and assignments are all-or-nothing: either AI can do it or it can't. In reality, assignments fall along a range. A recall question is easy for AI to answer. A task that depends on a student's own experience, process, or live demonstration is much harder.
The Spectrum gives you a shared way to describe where an assignment sits, so you can decide whether it needs a makeover and how far to move it.

1. Pick one assignment.
Choose one you'll assign again soon.
2. Test it.
Read the directions the way a student with a chatbot would. What could AI produce on the first try?
3. Place it.
Match what you find to the closest level above.
4. Decide how far to move it.
Not every assignment needs to reach AI-Resistant. A quick check for understanding may be fine as it is. A major grade should sit higher.

Once you know where an assignment sits, the Design step gives you five strategies to move it up the scale: make it personal, build in process, add specificity, integrate AI intentionally, and shift to performance.
No. "AI-Resistant" describes how much real student input an assignment needs, not whether a student could ever use AI as a tool. A student might use AI to brainstorm or check a draft. The goal is that the thinking you're grading still has to come from the student.
The Makeover Manual includes the full Audit step, with guidance for rating your own assignments and worked examples at each level.
